The Project
“All Zittel’s art-making activities embody and ultimately extend the well-known philosophy of Robert Rauschenberg, who suggests that since neither art nor life can be made, one always works in the space between them.” Shamim M. Momin. Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria: 25 years.

Engaging in work such as Zittel's is research into different methods of artistic practice. In Canada there is the artist run centre model and in the U.S.A there are many psuedo institutional art projects that stake their space and legitimacy through appropriation and rejection of institutional models. My collaborator Ashley Bedet and I plan on incorporating this research as a main element in our game 'Time and Space'. There are many ways a person can go about being an active artist, both through commercial and non-profit means and having the researched options available for a player in the game is an foundational part of both individual artistic growth but also in regards to considering, archiving and acknowledging present day standards and methods that art is produced and received by a greater public. Each small banal action has consequences in an additive format, effects will be positive or negative, sometimes not immediately apparently either. Whatever comes next is a consequence and not always from an immediately performed action.

Below is a potential diagram for how narration could be written for the game.
Time and Space
Below are examples of video games that are informing the narrative structure of our proposed game. They act as perfect inspiration for Time and Space as both are games that supply minimal instruction and instead promote self directed exploration in order to advance further in game play. Both too, coincidentally, take place in a vague and unknown desert landscape.
